It is hard to believe that we
last ventured through the hallowed halls of Mendel Catholic fifty years ago! It is time to revisit our old haunts with a reunion event designed to
rekindle some
great memories and renew some old friendships.
A group of your fellow classmates has been working
hard to
finalize a reunion event on
Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 1 PM to
5 PM at Argus Brewery, 11314 S. Front Street in Pullman (about 4 blocks
from the Mendel campus.)
Argus Brewery is a mini craft brewery with many
options located in the
old horse stables for
the Schlitz Brewery. Informal brewery
tours
will be possible. See
reverse
side for more
information. The reunion will be held under a
tent next to
the Brewery. The
reunion cost includes Argus
Beer, assorted soft drinks, snacks and an outstanding barbeque dinner.
The reunion will also include an optional 1 1/2-hour
tour of the old Pullman neighborhood, including
a lap around the Mendel
Catholic [now Gwendolyn Brooks] campus and down the
“Ave” starting at 11:30 am and
leaving from
the Argus Brewery.
Nine holes of golf at Burnham
Woods in the
morning are planned, if enough people are interested. The golf cost will be
tee fees plus carts; indicate Y
on the form if you
are
interested and we will get back with details.
Everyone who attends the
reunion will receive
a Mendel 1968 reunion cap and an Argus Beer Mug, which
are
alone worth the price of admission!
The cost for our reunion, not including the tour nor
the golf outing, is only $60, if paid in advance or $75 on the
day
of the event. Please use
the enclosed reply form to let us know if you will or will not be joining us.
Checks should be
made out to the
trustworthy, Alan Hartmann. Please respond no later than August 20.
Also see enclosed
information on the
annual alumni golf outing and look for information in the future
on the Mendel All-Class reunion
in
2019.
From the attached photos of
the
Argus brewery venue, you will remember [fondly]
what the
neighborhood was like way back when. The customized, optional tour will definitely bring back some fond memories of the
“good old days.”
Check out firsthand
in
this photo what Mendel could have looked like if the Augies charged $12,000 a
year!
